Random Curiosity and so Forth

Sat Jul 29, 2006, 10:02 PM
I'm curious about you guys, (you guys= whoever's reading this) do you prefer slash, femslash or het? I like all three more or less equally, so I try to join communities that allow all three, opposed to communities that cater to one specifically. If you have no idea what any of those terms mean, this question probably doesn't apply to you...

Also, what pairings do ya like, is there anything that you simply can't read? (eg. incest)

I prefer het, although I tend not to say so to avoid being tossed into the 'homophobe' basket. It's just what I like to read, 'sall.

I like . . . fun, random, somewhat obscure pairings. I tend to 'ship pairings that I think could work, whether or not they're canon. (Like Kitt/Parm, Random/Sparx (Kellamy/Sparx XD), Cortes/Dahlia, etc.)

Fair 'nough  The most important thing, I think, is that people respect other people's tastes, regardless of their own. I know you do

The great thing about liking obscure pairings is the fact that it's hard to be cliché :P It's great how you like these pairings and compensate for their obsurity by making so much fanfic and fanart.

:glomp: Aren't you just adorabubble? Yeah, everyone likes different things. It's no use bashing them for it.

The bad thing about liking obscure pairings is that you seem to be the only one. :P

I like reading potc slash, because I totally believe they're could be gay, esp jack/will. plus they're both super hot!
:iconvortarian:
Actually, according to this [link] and wikipedia Johnny Depp played Jack with the intention of making him bisexual ;) So PotC slashers certainly have something to work with, although I've prefered Jack/Elizabeth since Dead Man's Chest, but that's just me.

To me, it depends entirely on the fandom and the characters. If I think two characters work together I may attempt a pairing, usually, gender doesn't enter into the equation as canon doesn't always specifically state it. When it does, though, I usually take it into account.

For exampleThen again, if a character has been specifically stated as Het (Nene in Bubblegum Crisis, Tokyo 2040) then I usually refrain from putting them inslash or femslash, but I'm still up for alternatives there. Bubblegum Crisis was wodnerful for potential pairings :P Or if they're didtinctly gay, I usually won't hetthem, with the odd exception if I think it's ambiguous enough or can be pulled off
:iconkathrynkelly:
I like het, just because it's always the default pairing of my favourite fandoms and I like being true to them. :) But I don't have problems with the other two. Link/Dark Link slash can be really psychologically interesting if the writer handles it well.

The only thing I actively don't read is incest, it just gives me the creeps.

Fuck, when it comes to IZ fics, I'll read anything if the writer is good enough to pull it off. I mean, ZADR is the one that makes the most sense in my opinion and is the most enjoyable to read for me, but a writer can totally bomb it and it would be torture to read (or they could bomb it and it's hilarious. Depends on how weird it is. :p) For example, I never would have thought that DAGR would work, not so much because of the incest as just the characters themselves, but I ended up finding a very interesting DAGR fluff fic. It was weird, and yet the writer knew that it was a fucked up pairing (not penguin) so I suppose that compensated for it. I actually really enjoyed it. Another thing I thought I wouldn't like was femslash, but when I actually gave reading it a shot I found that I liked it, too. But as I said before, it's all in how it's written.

[Er, in response to other people's responses: I don't read Zelda fics anymore, but wow, Link/Darklink... O_O THAT sounds interesting. But Will/Jack, I mean, it's made pretty clear that Will is in love with Elizabeth, and he really has no sexual sort of reaction to Jack anyway. I could go for Jack/Elizabeth, though.)
